Connections for Children can provide information on choosing child care, finding the appropriate type of child care, and contacting other community agencies. Through a mixed-delivery system, we support parent choice by offering consumer education on child care options that meet their unique child care needs.

Family Child Care Homes
Care is offered in the home of a caregiver. Small Family Child Care Homes are licensed to care for up to 6-8 children and large Family Child Care Homes are licensed to care for up to 12-14 children.

Child Care Centers
Often referred to as nursery schools or preschool programs, Child Care Centers provide care for children in a large group setting for all or part of the day.

Before and After School Care Programs
These programs are available at many elementary schools, community-based organizations, and other sites for parents who need care for their school-age children before school begins and/or until the end of the work day.

Family, Friends, and Neighbors
License-exempt care is traditionally provided in a home-based setting by a friend, relative, babysitter, or nanny, on either a fully or part-time basis. Parent co-ops and certain public recreation programs may also not be required to be licensed.
