Supporting Symbolic Play

In this workshop we will review the development of symbolic and pretend play staring with toddler solo play and moving to more interactive Preschool associative/dramatic play. Participants will explore ideas for fostering pretend play in boys and girls and possible dramatic play themes. We will look at the value of incorporating loose parts in the dramatic play area. Participants will be able to look at books that support and enhance symbolic thinking. Together we will discuss the link to social-emotional development and how pretend play supports social roles, self-concept and pro-social behaviors.
