As a child care provider, your role as a mandated reporter of child abuse gives you an important opportunity to help safeguard the children in your program. You may encounter situations where you suspect or know that a child in your care is being abused or neglected. When situations like this arise, you must follow specific procedures to ensure that the appropriate authorities are made aware of the abuse in order for the child under your care to get assistance. During this workshop, we will review your reporting obligation and guide you through some of the difficult issues that can arise from this obligation. We will share practical tips about recognizing child abuse, how to discuss your obligation with staff and parents, and what to do after you have made a report.
